Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya admits getting help from a doctor after sparking fake abs
Oscar De La Hoya has admitted he got ‘help from a doctor’ after sparking debate with his epic body transformation.
The former six-weight boxing world champion, who turns 50 next week, recently shocked the world by showing off his shredded physique and six-pack abs.
While many fans took to social media to congratulate him on getting in such great shape, some thought his new body was too good to be true and accused him of getting ‘fake abs’.
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, De La Hoya looked to end the debate about his body transformation.
He said: “They are real, they are my abs. What I did was I got a little bit of help from a doctor.
“It’s called lipo-sculpting-something. I don’t know. They actually go in with a tiny needle and it sucks up your fat in between your abs. So, what happens is, they just pop.
“I’ve always had abs, I worked out every day, so my body fat is low. But when you do the sculpting of the abs, they pop out like there’s no tomorrow.
“Everybody thinks they’re fake. It’s not possible, first of all, to have fake abs, but if you etch them they just pop like there’s no tomorrow.

The 49-year-old explained that after undergoing the surgical procedure he will always have abs – even if he gains a ton of weight and gets seriously out of shape.
De La Hoya added: “I can gain 200lbs and I’ll still have my abs because once that fat is removed it cannot grow back in that particular area. It’s going to grow somewhere else, behind my f***ing shoulder or something.”
‘The Golden Boy’ was set to end his retirement in September 2021 and box former UFC fighter Vitor Belfort but a particularly bad case of coronavirus hospitalised De La Hoya and forced him out of the bout.
Belfort ended up fighting Evander Holyfield instead in a sad affair that saw the 60-year-old boxing icon get dropped and stopped inside one round.
De La Hoya later admitted he was thankful he didn’t end up fighting ‘The Phenom’ before confirming he no longer plans to box for the first time since he was badly beaten by Manny Pacquiao in 2008.
