Fergie: It hurt me when people called me fugly
I kept seeing this “fugly” quote all over the place this past week, and I kept waiting for this magazine to come online, and now it’s here! Yay! Anyway, Fergie is the cover girl for the May issue of Elle (America). The full interview hasn’t come online, but Elle did put up some excerpts that I’m enjoying. The “fugly” quote is probably the most interesting, where Fergie says: “It has hurt me in the past when people say things like how ‘fugly’ I am or how horrible I look. I’ve had to learn not to give it such a high priority in life….” Interesting. I know we’re all bitches and it’s fun to mean-girl, but I for one don’t even think Fergie is “fugly”. Sure, she’s not drop-dead gorgeous, but she can be cute or sexy sometimes. We should make a pact. No more calling Fergie “fugly”. Pinkie swear. Here’s more from Elle:
On curbing her appetite: “I’m not going to lie: There are times I play mind tricks on myself, like that the french fries are poison. With desserts, I’ll let myself have just one bite, but I’ll look like a freak when I’m eating it, like when I did Duncan Hines commercials as a kid, just savoring every morsel.”
On criticism from gossipmongers: “It has hurt me in the past when people say things like how ‘fugly’ I am or how horrible I look. I’ve had to learn not to give it such a high priority in life…. Look, when you’re trying to juggle all of this in your life, sometimes you’re not going to look perfect. I don’t have time to get a facial every couple of days.”
On having high expectations: “For my album, I wanted to arrive at the MTV Awards in a British buggy on hydraulics. It didn’t quite work out that way, but, yes, I have all these big, huge dreams.”
On her relationship style: “I’m a relationship girl, a romantic. When I was younger, I used to be the cheater. I’m not talking about going all the way—I wasn’t doing that in high school! But I’d have boyfriends, and then spring break would come around and I’d be a little bit naughty.”
On marriage to Josh Duhamel: “You grow a deeper love for each other, besides the initial lust and falling in love and all of that. You come to know each other a lot better, you grow together, and it makes you love each other that much deeper.”

Yeah, it still bothers me that Fergie is pretty much pretending the stripper incident never happened. Granted, I don’t think Fergie (or Sandra Bullock, or Elin Woods, or any other wife who gets cheated on) needs to come out and make an epic display and tell us all every little detail about how they’re feeling and correct the record on everything. But Fergie just dealt with Josh’s wandering wang with almost complete silence. And lots of photo ops on red carpets, with Josh playing the dutiful and loving husband. It makes me feel like Fergie is hopelessly in love with a dirt bag who bangs strippers, and that bothers me, girl to girl.
