Scotty Bowman no longer with Blackhawks
Scotty Bowman said that he is no longer with the Blackhawks' organization via Twitter on Tuesday. Bowman,, who had been working as the Blackhawks' Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations, tweeted he had decided "as of July 1 I decided it was time to move on. Still love the game and would like to stay involved."
“I just felt it was time to move on,” Bowman told The Athletic on Tuesday. “I know it was not an easy year for everybody.”
Bowman, 88, said he spoke with Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz last month and general manager Kyle Davidson more recently. Bowman said Davidson asked him to reconsider, and he took a few days, but just felt it was best to make a change.
Bowman said his function with the team hasn’t been the same, and his son Stan no longer works there, so it’s different in that way. He’s enjoyed mentoring young coaches and staying involved in the game. And hopes to do so.
Bowman, a Florida resident since 2005, said he went to all but six Lightning home games this season.
“I intend to try to keep my lifestyle the same, you know, I enjoyed my living in Siesta Key and I enjoy the ability to go to the Lightning home games,” Bowman said. “You know, it's been a godsend for me to watch a team like that grow and get better and win.”
As a head coach, Bowman won a record nine Stanley Cups with three teams (Canadiens, Penguins and Red Wings) and has also won five Stanley Cups as an executive, ranking second all-time in most Stanley Cup victories by a player, coach or executive.
This is a developing story. More to come.
