The Logies, Worst Dressed: Abbie Chatfield, Samantha Armytage

Publish date: 2024-06-07

The Logies is unique because it is less glitz and glam and more… who on earth is that? And is that a Tarocash suit?

Sure, The Oscars and The Golden Globes get all the hype, but there’s something a little too perfect about those award shows.

It’s just the most famous people in the world wearing the most expensive clothes, and everyone looks perfect.

Where’s the fun in that?

The Logies, on the other hand, are imperfect, making them so watchable.

None of our real celebrities turn up. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban aren’t leaving the house only to be surrounded by the cast of Married At First Sight.

Instead, we get the reality stars that are just excited to leave the house for something other than a staged photo shoot and all sorts of celebrities we vaguely recognise.

If you haven’t uttered the sentence, “is he on Home And Away or Neighbours?” you haven’t watched The Logies.

The best part is the fashion; by the fashion, I mean the looks that haven’t quite worked out.

The celebrities that attend The Oscars and The Golden Globes are styled within an inch of their lives, and rarely anyone makes a genuine fashion mistake.

Thankfully The Logies never disappoints. The clothes give us something to discuss, and the Aussie stars didn’t disappoint this year.

Let’s start by acknowledging that even the people with a “fashion fail” still arguably looked more gorgeous than any of us ever do. Their worst, is most of our bests.

Abbie Chatfield rocked up in a dress that seemed like something Kylie Jenner had already rejected.

It was skin-tight and featured back and neck cleavage, which would have been very exciting, but it didn’t look right.

Yes, she looked incredible, but the outfit was just not serving and it didn’t quite work for her.

It was one of those looks that was almost perfect but ultimately seemed more like a dress you’d wear on your last night of Schoolies than to The Logies.

It was giving Ursula meets influencer on a budget.

Next on the fashion fail list is everyone’s favourite, sometimes there, sometimes not, host Samantha Armytage.

I love Samantha and the idea was correct, but the execution was not, like when you try to decorate a cake by yourself.

She wore a gorgeous red dress, but the details swallowed her up. It was a red hot mess.

Industry Icon Shaun Micallef look also made the fashion no list.

He went bold, but he looked more like he was wearing the infamous puffy shirt from the Seinfeld episode rather than the sexy pirate look he was going for.

He looked like he was heading off to a themed party at a sharehouse, instead of The Logies.

Finally, poor Jessica Mauboy, it was almost good, but something about it was bad.

Even the fact she insisted on singing the majority of her responses to questions by reporters couldn’t hide the fact the dress wasn’t right.

The sleeves, well, I’m worried she was going to dip them in her food by accident and ruin the whole look.

Surely, if she ended up at McDonalds at 3am, she would have accidentally dunked them in some sweet and sour sauce while dipping a nugget.

There’s something very scary about barely being able to see someone’s hands. What are they hiding?

Jessica deserved better.

Like I said though, even at their worst, our Aussie stars still looked incredible and they provided the ultimate entertainment for us at home. And let’s be honest, it is much more fun when they get things a little wrong.

We got to smugly say, “oh I don’t like that,” while laying around in our Kmart sweats with food stains on them.
