This Is Us Creator Dan Fogelman Reveals Season 5s Storyline Will Feature COVID-19!
It’s art imitating life! Fans of This Is Us will be able to watch the characters of this fictional world experience the real world pandemic, that we are all still dealing with, in season 5!
The beloved show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, responded to a curious fan wondering whether or not the upcoming new season will include the real-world health crisis in its storyline.
Fogelman was quick to tweet: ‘Yes on Covid. We’ve decided to attack things head on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters.’
Whether you think that’s a good thing or not that they decided to reflect and represent the biggest threat the planet is currently dealing with, it’s safe to say that it will make for an interesting plot for season 5.
As you might be aware, there have been a couple of other popular shows that chose to include the crisis in their storylines, including Grey’s Anatomy, but fans were still unsure if This Is Us would choose to do the same.
But now they definitely have the answer!
Given the fact that the show tells a very complex story that often jumps between different decades, it’ll be undoubtedly interesting to see how the show deals with COVID-19 in our present day.
For the time being, however, the creator admitted that there is still no clear date for when they’ll be able to begin production on season 5.
Some vague #ThisIsUs answers (sorry)
– Not sure yet on production start.
– Not sure when new eps will air.
– Yes on Covid. We've decided to attack things head on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters
– Same planned ending. Same route to get there.
Hope that's (somewhat) useful? https://t.co/gx0YJQxq5f

He also confirmed that the pandemic storyline will not affect the originally planned ending for the show.

Earlier his summer, Justin Hartley shared via ET that ‘Our show‘s at our best when we are talking about real life things that real life people are going through which are hard and are not going away anytime soon: mental health, sexuality, alcohol, drug addiction, marriage and death. As long as we continue to tackle those topics that are truthful, are honest and are relevant, that is when we are at our best. And from what I am gathering, it is going to be a hell of a season.’
