The 67-year-old began his record attempt on August 1 and he hopes to finally complete it by August 12 - as long as his attempt doesn’t go up in smoke.

After setting his fifth world record, he said: “Cuba is the country where the best tobacco is grown, and as long as Cueto is around, Cuba will have the world's longest cigar.”

Guinness World Records say: “The longest cigar measured 81.80 m (268 ft 4 in) and was made by Jose Castelar Cueto at the La Triada shop at Parque Morro-Cabaña in Havana, Cuba, on 3 May 2011.

“Cueto started to make the cigar on 25 April 2011, but only finished in the evening of 2 May. The cigar was officially measured on the following day.”

In other record news, a feline named the world’s oldest cat did not live to enjoy the title for long after passing away before it was officially confirmed.

While this massive Great Dane could be the world’s new top dog.
